Wellington Town Council special co-option meeting November 2006

Minutes of a special meeting of Wellington Town Council held in the town council chamber at 28 Fore Street, Wellington on Thursday 16th November 2006 at 6pm to elect a new co-opted member of the town council.

PRESENT: Councillor D. Mitton (chairman), who presided, Councillor P. Critchard (vice-chairman), Councillors Mrs V. Byrne, Mrs G. Copley, Mrs V. Stock-Williams and Mrs N. Wilson, Councillors R. Bowrah, A. Govier, C Hindley, G. James, S. Palmer and E. Warren, the clerk A. Brown and the assistant to the clerk, Mrs J. Thorne. There were apologies from Councillors K. Biscoe and R. Henley.

14026 WELCOME TO APPLICANTS
With reference to minute 14010, the chairman welcomed the two applicants, John Clark, of 10 Hyacinth Terrace, a Taunton Deane Borough councillor for Wellington West ward, and Bill McNicholas, of 31a Longforth Road, a retired care home proprietor. The letters sent in by the applicants had been distributed to councillors prior to the meeting and a C.V. provided by Mr McNicholas subsequently was distributed at the meeting.

14027 ADDRESS BY APPLICANTS
The chairman then invited the applicants to address the councillors one by one on the reasons why they would like to be a town councillor and provide some details about themselves as well as their views on what could be done to improve life in the town, on what they felt were the biggest challenges facing the town council in Wellington and what they felt needed to be done to meet those challenges.

14028 ELECTION OF CO-OPTED COUNCILLOR
The written votes cast by members were scrutinised by Mr Brown and Mrs Thorne and it was announced that John Clark had been elected. The candidates were then invited back into the council chamber and informed of the result.

14029 DECLARATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF OFFICE
Councillor Clark signed the declaration of acceptance of office as a town councillor.
